Welcome to 6th grade!
|Dear Students and Parents,|
Welcome to HMS! I am looking forward to a wonderful and productive year in Math, as I hope you are. This year we will be mastering several objectives in the Math Common Core Curriculum. By the end of the school year, my goal is for each student to show strong academic growth in math. In order for us to reach this goal, there are a few things you need to do on your part. Students, you must be respectful and responsible 6th graders everyday!
I am respectful when I…
Listen quietly when others are talking and raise my hand to speak
Use kind words and appropriate school language
Cooperate with my peers, teachers and administrators
Stay in my seat, unless I have received permission to do otherwise
Keep my hands, feet and objects to myself
Do not touch other people’s personal belongings without permission
Wait for my teacher to dismiss class
I am responsible when I…
Make good choices
Arrive to class on time
Come to class prepared to learn
Use all materials properly
Follow all school-side rules (no electronics, no gum, no cheating, etc.)
Record all homework assignments or announcements in my planner
Ask questions when I need clarification
Do my best and put in 100% effort in all I do
All supplies need to be brought in no later than September 3rd, 2013
Please have these materials out and be in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings! Make it a goal not to forget things in your locker. It holds up class if we have to wait on you to get prepared and you will not be allowed to go back to your locker.
Following all of these guidelines will ensure a great and trouble-free year. However, consequences for inappropriate behaviors will be enforced. These may include a parent contact, student conference, lunch or afterschool detention, a ‘Behavior Redirection” referral or referral to administration.
Discipline Procedures in Ms. Steinman's Class:
*1st Offense~ Verbal warning to correct behavior
*2nd Offense~ Name on board
*3rd Offense~ Check by name and silent lunch (parent contact)
*4th Offense~ Student sent to Buddy Teacher to do a reflection log
*5th Offense~ Referral to Administration
**Silent lunch will be served the following school day. A note will be sent home the day given for the parent to see/sign. Silent lunch will be served with the ISS teacher.**
*Locker breaks will be before school starts and right before students leave
the 6th grade building to go to Cultural Wheel for the day.
*Book bags will be in lockers. They will have everything
with them for their core class (Composition books, paper, math textbook and pencil bag.)
*No electronics out at school. I see it, I hear it, I take it. Administration will hold it for 30 days. If it's off and out of sight, you're alright!
*Progress reports will be given out every 2 & 1/2 weeks in my class. I want students to know where they stand in my class at all times. Please check Engrade for missing work and averages. Parents can make a Parent Account to monitor student success. Please email me if you need help setting the account up. I update grades atleast once a week, if not more.
*Remember we are here to meet our End Of Grade score goal, not to just have
fun. Let's work together to do both!
*I can be reached by writing in your students' agenda planner, by email or by leaving a message at the front office.
*My day for students to stay after to work on missing assignments and low test grades are on Mondays from 3:00-4:00. Student MUST BRING A PERMISSION NOTE TO STAY AFTER, NO PHONE CALLS WILL BE ALLOWED. Please have rides here by 3:55. They know they are there to work and get work turned in. Any behavior problems will result in those students not being able to stay after.
I am eager to get started on the great year ahead. Let’s work together to achieve our learning goals and make this a fun and exciting year in 6th grade math! Remember our school vision statement: Exhibiting Excellence in Education!
