ABOUT MS. POLUGA
I was born and raised in Bosnia, where I earned a law degree. I worked as a lawyer five years before wore broke out in my birth country. My family was forced to flee from our country to save our own lives and we became refugees. We spent almost six long years in a refuge camp before getting the opportunity to come to the United States.
In Bosnia, we spoke Serbo-Croatian. In school I learned German and Latin. When I came to US I didn’t speak or read English. First, I had to learn English and then return to school to become a teacher. After five years living in the United States we were able to become citizens.
My two boys are students at New Bern High School and are active in sports. They play for the # 1 football team in NC. GO BEARS!!!
This is my ninth year at Trent Park Elementary. I am emotionally attached to this school because my sons used to be students here and they had a great time. Although there are times when I miss my old life and profession, I truly enjoy teaching and feel this is where I should be.
