Trent Park Elementary School

Chalkboard - Back to School
Cheryl Wilson, Principal

"Pride through Performance"

Who is Ms. Wilson?
My family and I live near Vanceboro where I was born. My husband and I are blessed with two sons, Lee and Phillip. I have a three year old granddaughter named Michaela and one grandson named Brighton. I am actively involved in my church and in my free time I like to read, scrapbook, and simply "be outside".

I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from East Carolina University in 1985. In November 2000, I became a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of Middle Childhood (ages 7-12). I earned my Masters of School Administration from my alma mater in May, 2005. I look forward to completing the last course towards my AIG Certification.

I have taught primarily third grade, however I have also taught second, fourth, and fifth. I began student teaching at Bridgeton Elementary. I opened my first classroom doors at Jasper Elementary and moved to James W. Smith Elementary three years later into our new building. I "looped" with many of the students over the past few years. This experience was wonderful for me. I had the opportunity to learn all levels of curriculum and get to know my students and their families. Amazingly, I looped with some of the children's children that I had looped with at the beginning of my career. (They called me their "Grandma".) I served as a learning systems coach for grades 3-5 at James W Smith Elementary for two years. To learn more about leadership, curriculum, and child development, I was the assistant principal at West Craven Middle School during the last two years. It was an exciting and rewarding experience.

My first year at Trent Park Elementary was wonderful. Thanks to the awesome students and teachers at Trent Park, we met all 17 of our 17 targets and met expected growth. I look forward to working with the students, parents, and staff of the most awesome Craven County school! Together we will make a difference.
