Welcome to Trent Park Elementary! My name is Shelia S. Cayton and this is my fourth year as assistant principal. I am happy to be working with your students and look forward to work with you as we strive to develop life long learners of the 21st century. I have been teaching in the Craven County School system since 1988. I taught 6-8 grade remedial reading, transitional first grade, kindergarten, first grade, and Triad AIG before accepting my current position. I am married to Keith Cayton, a business teacher and coach at New Bern High School. We have three grown sons: Drew (27), Will (26) and Josh (18). All of our children began and completed their public education in the Craven County School system and are now currently attending higher education institutions or have graduated from higher educational institutions. I believe children are our business and that we as educational professionals have been charged with educating the whole child, socially, physically, academically and emotionally. Our goal is to keep our children and drivers safe, so please speak with your children about proper bus behavior.

3- No Talking at Railroad Crossings
4- Keep Hands Inside the Bus
5- No Food or Drinks on the Bus
6- Be Respectful of Others

Parent Pointers for Rewarding Your Children
• Focus rewards more on effort and improvement and less on “grade” or outcome.
• Choose rewards wisely. Some of the best rewards are time spent alone with you reading, talking, or having a special meal.
• Save for a special reward like a trip to the movies. Put a marble in a jar each time your child earns recognition. When the jar is full, enjoy the special reward!
