Test - Graded
Reading: We are reading various selections from our Harcourt Trophies text. After reading and discussing the story, we identify and determine characteristics of the genre, author's purpose, and author techniques from the selections. We also study different skills each week such as summarizing, cause and effect, and drawing inferences. A test is given on each Friday to test for mastery of skills and comprehension.

Spelling: A list will be assigned each week. A contract of 40 points is also assigned. The students are responsible for completing the contract and learning to spell the words. A test will be given each Friday. The list of words and actual contract should be kept in the homework folder and all work should be kept in the blue spelling composition notebook. It is collected and checked each Friday. Completing the 40 points each week will earn the students a 100 grade added to the spelling test grades at the end of the grading period.

Math: This grading period focuses on measurement and geometry. It is extrememly important that each child knows multiplication facts and measurement formulas in order to do this work. Please help your child learn/review these basic facts. These skills are tested weekly as well as county-wide assessments are administered at 12-week intervals. Students can practice math facts using the Math Facts in a Flash program from home.

Social Studies and Science: This year the 4th grade has chosen to use North Carolina Studies Weekly and Science Studies Weekly in order to study current information in these subject areas. We are also about to begin an indepth study of rocks and minerals which will involve across the curriculum activities.
